Do you volunteer with a local youth or community group, and would like to work with children?

Five Education currently have several vacancies supporting children with additional needs, in mainstream and specialist schools, in and around Taunton. As a Teaching Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work closely with young people, encouraging them to learn and challenge themselves.

Responsibilities and duties

Supporting 1:1 in class

Help the pupil/pupils move from one activity to the next

Help the pupils to access the curriculum and possibly tailor the lesson of the activity to the pupil’s level of ability

Make learning fun and enjoyable

Be a support to the pupil when they are struggling, and help them to calm down

Build a strong relationship with the pupils and teaching staff to ensure that the pupil/pupils are achieving their potential

Essential Criteria:

At least 3 months experience of working with children or vulnerable adults

2 years worth of references, 1 has to be working with children or vulnerable adults (needs to be recent and this could be paid or volunteer work)

A relevant DBS/Police checks.*

Able to work between 08.30-15.30 and a minimum of 2 days a week

*Please note, if you do not have a Non-Voluntary Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, we will need to help you process a new one at a cost of £62.70. This will be refunded after 20 days of work with us.

Pay: Five Education operates a PAYE payroll; this is the most transparent way to be paid with no hidden fees such as admin fee or employer’s NI. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.

Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including reference checks, TRA checks and will need to have a DBS; there will also be an interview.
