As a Head of Maintenance at a Barchester care home, you’ll make sure the care home has a clean and well-maintained environment so that residents feel at home and staff can do their jobs well. You’ll be responsible for a wide range of maintenance tasks, from fixing a leaky tap to gardening, and will also need to manage a team and liaise with contractors.

Main duties of the job

The Head of Maintenance role at Barchester Healthcare’s care home in Lasswade involves ensuring the care home building, grounds, and gardens are well-maintained and provide a warm, welcoming atmosphere for residents. You’ll be responsible for a variety of tasks, from basic repairs to more complex maintenance work, as well as leading a team and supporting the General Manager with budget planning. The role requires hands-on experience in property maintenance, at least one trade skill, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

You can expect plenty of variety as a Head of Maintenance with us. You’ll turn your hand to all sorts of tasks within the care home building as well as in the gardens and grounds. That could mean fixing a leaky tap one minute and planting some new bulbs the next. You should be comfortable working alone, leading a team and supporting the General Manager with annual budget planning. We’ll also need you to liaise with contractors on jobs that fall outside the expertise of your team.

ABOUT YOU The wellbeing of our residents will be your number one priority as a Head of Maintenance at Barchester. You’ll make sure all work is carried out with sensitivity to their needs. With hands-on experience of property maintenance, you’ll have at least one trade skill and, ideally, a proven ability to undertake a wide range of maintenance tasks. You should be reliable and flexible when it comes to your working hours. This role also calls for a full UK driving licence, IT literacy and GCSEs in Maths and English (or equivalent).
