Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer (Building Services)

Location: Postcombe, Oxfordshire

Salary: £45,000 per annum

The Role

  • Produce mechanical schematics, layouts, elevations, and detailed drawings using AutoCAD (Revit experience is a bonus).
  • Carry out mechanical engineering calculations including heat loss, pipework sizing, and ductwork design using software such as Hevacomp.
  • Prepare accurate equipment schedules aligned with Employers’ Requirements and design standards.
  • Review and check technical design documents for compliance with Building Regulations and British Standards.
  • Identify and address design risks with practical, well-communicated solutions.
  • Attend design meetings and liaise with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Use electronic document management systems to keep documentation organised and up to date.
  • Assist in delivering installation-ready Stage 5 designs.

  • Over 20 years delivering Mechanical/HVAC projects throughout the UK.
  • Operates across both commercial and residential sectors.
  • Office based in Oxfordshire.
  • Team of approximately 30 direct employees, including office and site staff.
  • Annual turnover around £8.5 million.
  • This hire is due to company growth and a strengthened order book.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in mechanical building services or HVAC design.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD; Revit experience desirable.
  • Working knowledge of Hevacomp and familiarity with SAP/SBEM tools.
  • Strong understanding of Building Regulations, British Standards, and best practices.
  • Experience preparing technical submissions and using document management systems.
  • HNC or higher qualification in Building Services Engineering or a related field.
  • Excellent communication skills with a proactive, detail-oriented approach.
  • Strong IT and organisational skills.
