An exciting opportunity has arisen for an assistant solicitor with ideally 1-2 years Post Qualification Experience (“PQE”) to join our team on a full-time basis.
The successful candidate will have a strong desire to grow as a valued member of our firm.
You will be a friendly, hard-working, trustworthy, punctual, reliable, well-organised and tech-savvy solicitor to assist our firm’s Principal Solicitor and to run cases independently.
The candidate should be self-sufficient, able to type and offer general administrative support as and when required.
The caseload will include debt recovery, landlord & tenant, property disputes, contract disputes and other general dispute resolution.
Candidates will be shortlisted for interview based on their qualifications, skills and experience.
The candidate must speak/write fluent English and have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
All candidates will be asked to complete a written assessment in test conditions. The written assessment will be followed by a remote interview and, thereafter, an in-person interview at the final stage.

Role
- 1-2 years’ experience of acting for and defending clients in debt recovery, landlord & tenant, and dispute resolution cases.
- Able to draft letters of advice to clients, LBAs/LOCs, letters to opponents/the court/other third parties, instructions to counsel/experts, pleading, list of documents, directions questionnaire/draft directions, Notices, index to bundles, bundle preparation, witness statements, precedent H estimates/cost estimates, N260 etc.
- Taking client instructions and providing expert legal advice by telephone and at virtual or in-person meetings.
- Demonstrate an ability to work to deadlines and targets, planning accordingly, and working alongside the MD to set client expectations on deliverables and fees.
- Must have a keen eye with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent understanding and ability to work within the Civil Procedure Rules and the relevant High Court Rules.
- Ability to work collaboratively, keeping in contact as part of the team but also self-efficient and able to manage own caseload/work independently.
- Demonstrate an ability to always ensure sufficient money on account so that bills are paid, that you do not work “on credit” and that debt does not accrue.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in clear, plain English in line with our firm’s core principles.
- Have experience of using document management systems, Microsoft office and Adobe (working with pdfs).
- Excellent client care skills to be able to speak with clients and third parties confidentially and independently.
- Excellent communication, negotiation and organisation skills.
- Able to use electronic diary management, planners and collaborative tools.
- Able to assist with administrative tasks such as file opening, AML checks, conflict checks and bundle preparation.
- Bundle preparation and assisting counsel at court hearings and trials when required.
- Assisting clients at mediations, round table meetings and at court when required.
- Legal research, gathering evidence, checking accuracy, checking enclosures and assisting to progress cases.
- Independently time recording, ensuring that client is always kept up to date in relation to costs, ensuring that there is always sufficient money on account and not working in deficit.
- Ensuring that all deadlines are met.
- Working within and understanding limitation periods.
- Assisting with monthly accounting and billing.
- A minimum of 1-2 years PQE.
- Excellent communication, administration and organisation skills.
- Good punctuation and grammar.
- Works well under pressure.
- Works well as part of a team and independently.
- Willing to go over and above when required independently.
- Always punctual, friendly, polite and trustworthy.
- Able to write articles and blogs/social posts.
- Attending networking events.
- Engaging in and initiating activity to win new business for the firm.
Qualifications
- A’levels (A-B)
- Degree (min 2.1)
- Qualified solicitor with a valid practising certificate in England and Wales.
- At least 2+ years PQE
- Right to work in the UK
